Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola

A bill seeking the increment in the salaries, allowances, and fringe benefits of the Chief Justice of the Federation (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola; and other judicial office holders has been approved by the Senate.

The salary and other benefits bill, which was passed at the plenary on Wednesday after it scaled the third reading, increased the CJN and other judicial officers by 300 per cent.

The approval followed the adoption of a report by the Chairman Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters, Mohammed Monguno.

According to the Senator, “Adequate remuneration will allow judicial officers to focus on their professional development without worrying about financial constraint.

“Hence, it will improve their professionalism and decision making skills, and fair compensation for judicial officers is crucial for maintaining public trust in the judiciary’s impartiality and integrity.”
