Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu has announced that the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) earlier postponed will now commence from Thursday, June 6, 2024.
The examination was postponed due to the industrial action by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Monday.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Oghoro, on behalf of the Commissioner, indicating that the examination would end on Tuesday, June 11 2024.
The statement said that the Ministry considered it necessary to take advantage of the one week suspension of the strike to conduct the examination so as to avoid further delay.
It directed the Chief Inspectors of Education (CIEs) in the 25 local government areas to further inform the school heads of the new dates of Thursday, 6th , Saturday, 8th , Monday, 10th and Tuesday 11th of June, 2024 for the BECE examinations
It advised parents to ensure that their children and wards in Junior Secondary three class participate in the examinations.
The statement, however, said that the officials of the Ministry would monitor the examination across the state.
