Emmanuel Alayande University Matriculates 2600 Students

Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo has matriculated 2,600 students for the new academic calendar.

This is the first set of students of the university under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Olanrewaju Olaniyan.

The ceremony, which was held on Tuesday, was witnessed by Governor Seyi Makinde, ably represented by the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Salihu AbdulWaheed Adelabu.

Professor Olaniyan, in his address, reserved special praise for Governor Seyi Makinde for his relentless support from getting the former College of Education licensed to operate as a University in December, 2022 to the present state of matriculating 2,600 students in its first year.

He charged the newly matriculated students to be worthy ambassadors of the institution at all times, beseeching them to shy away from all social vices, and any form of cultism which is largely frowned at in the university.

“I welcome everyone including the parents and guidance to this special occasion. It is important to state that all these transformations were made possible with hard work and huge support from the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde. He personally led the school management team to Abuja to get the license to operate as a University in December, 2022.

“We began the admission process in December 2023, when we presented 50 Academic programs and NCC approved all, then we approached JAMB in January. About 3,606 students applied for admission however, 2,600 are matriculating today and they have all been admitted on merits.

“The many applications came from 24 states across the country with gender spread of 59% female, 41% male and 75% from Oyo State while 25% are from outside the state. The school has 50 programs, 20 departments and 5 Faculties which include Faculty of Art; Science; Social Sciences; Specialized and Professional Education; and Vocational & Innovative Entrepreneurship Education.” Professor Olaniyan said.

Governor Seyi Makinde, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. AbdulWaheed Adelabu Salihu, reminded the newly matriculating students that whatever they are going to do in life starts from this point onward.

He advised them to build on their many ideas as Gen Z and put them into fruition.

“Whatever you are going to do in life, start now and it will shape you for your future. This is the time to face your studies squarely, begin to implement ideas and put them into fruition. Run away from social vices and cultism.” Prof Salihu stated.

“I congratulate all students and parents with special greetings to Governor Seyi Makinde for all the efforts taken to metamorphose this institution to a University.” he added.

The guest lecturer, Professor Adeniyi Gbadegesin, shared his utmost appreciation to the pioneering lecturers, who have joined this historic transition from Emmanuel Alayande College of Education for their renewed commitment to the success of all students.
