Conference of Speakers Meet US Government, Discuss Legislative Ways Of Promoting Investments, Stimulating Economy

The Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin joined other Speakers in the South West for an interactive session with representatives of the United States of America in Nigeria.

The interactive session which was attended by the US Consul General, Will Stevens and the Charge d’Affaires, David Greene centered on the roles of Legislatures in stimulating Nigeria’s economy as well as ways of promoting private partnership and foreign investments in the South West geopolitical zone.

The session held at Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort, Ekiti State also had in attendance the Ekiti State Speaker, Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye who doubles as South West Chairman of the Conference, Osun State Speaker, Hon. Adewale Egbedun and their Ondo State counterpart, Hon. Olamide Oladiji.

The US Consul General, Will Stevens harped on the need for the state lawmakers to make good laws that will encourage investments and stimulate the economy.

According to him, the South West geopolitical zone has a lot of socioeconomic and agricultural potentials which investors can put their money into.

“As lawmakers, you need to make good legislation that will enhance ease of doing business, and provide an enabling environment for business to thrive. This may call for repelling or reviewing the some of the existing ones”

Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, assured the readiness of the state legislatures across the country to make laws that will be efficient, transparent and easy to implement so that investments can thrive.

He said the leadership of the Conference will continue to set an agenda for all the state legislatures towards strengthening democracy and improving the legislative institution.

“I would like to assure that the ideas and experiences garnered at the interactive session will be transmitted to all the State Houses of Assembly.” Ogundoyin said.
