Government at all levels have enjoined to prioritize funding the education sector and providing employment opportunities for youths to address the spate of insecurities in the country.

The Founder and Spiritual Head of Shafaudeen In Islam Worldwide, Prof. Sabit Ariyo Olagoke gave the admonition at the 19th Annual Inter-House Sports Competition of Shafaudeen Group of Schools.

The event which was held at the playing ground of Christ Church Primary School, Wakajaye, Ibadan, is to mark the commencement of the 2024 Ishrat celebration.

Speaking on the theme ‘Good Parenting: An Antidote to Wasted Generation Syndrome’, Professor Olagoke disclosed that government needs to provide good governance in line with the sustainable development objective for parents to be able to carry out good parenting responsibility.

“Ishrat 2024 opening ceremony is dedicated to the course of children and as a challenge to all parents that the children of today are the leaders of tomorrow. They may not get to that position of leadership if we offer them poor parenting.

“When you take care of child, it means you are respecting God on His injunction and you are preparing a better tomorrow for yourself. We have to walk the talk of all the so called theories already profonded by philosophers, profonded by all the religions on how best to follow due process in achieving greater height most especially for the youth and this is what we are demonstrating to the whole world.

“When you look into what the United Nations is saying about the sustainable development, it says only good governance can offer us sustainable development that is equitable to the future generations but without compromising the ability of the youth to really develop at their own pace. When you watch that statement, by the time people like us were in school, it was more of manual and analog approach, today it is digital, which means if you are unable to provide for the youth of today accordingly, they will be worse than those people born in the primitive era.

“That is more reason why government must try as much as possible to fund education well, and to meaningfully provide employment opportunities for our youths because in the very nearest future, the whole world we now be competing with respect to the human capital they have, and if Nigeria continues to suffer the youth, we will have problems because we will be looking for foreigners to rule us and help us in some areas where dexterity, expertise are expected.

“Therefore, I am appealing to government at all levels to try as much as possible to ensure they offer good governance for the parents to be able to offer good parenting. If parents are able to offer good parenting, they will be able to produce children that are beneficial to the society. All these insecurities will be the things of the past.

“We are all stakeholders, I must do my own part, you must do your own part and governments must their own part, we have given them the opportunity to either mar the country or make it, I pray that they will be able to offer good governance,” Prof. Olagoke said.
