House Of Reps Orders IG To Arrest CBN Governor, AG, Others

CBN Governor, Olayemi Cardoso

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petition has fumed over the failure of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, Accountant General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein and 17 others for failing to honour its invitation.

The Committee also ordered their arrest following a motion led by Fred Agbedi (PDP/Bayelsa) on Tuesday.

Among the 17 to be arrested are the heads of National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), Ethiop Eastern Exploration and Production Company Ltd, and Western Africa Exploration and Production.

Others are heads of Alteo Eastern E&P Co. Ltd., First Exploration & Production Limited, the Managing Director, First E&P OML 8385 JV, Heirs Holdings Oil and Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPNU), Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Total Exploration & Producing Nig (TEPN), Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC), Pan Ocean Oil Nig, Ltd, Newcross E&P Ltd and Frontier Oil Ltd.

In his motion, the Peoples Democratic Party lawmaker argued that the Chief Executive Officers had been invited several times but failed to appear before the committee, saying the arrest warrant was unavoidable.

Agbedi demanded that the heads of government agencies should be made to appear before the committee by Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Ruling on the motion, the committee chairman, Micheal Irom (APC-Cross River), said that the IGP should ensure the CEOs were brought before the committee on December 14.
