The Senate has confirmed former Commissioner for Finance in Oyo State, Zacchaeus Adedeji as the Chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS)
Adedeji appeared before the Senate for screening on Tuesday.
The upper chamber commenced Adedeji’s screening for his confirmation, two weeks after President Bola Tinubu appointed his former Special Adviser on Revenue as the new FIRS boss.
Tinubu had written to the Senate for expeditious consideration of the confirmation of the appointment of Zacch.
The appointment of Adedeji as the FIRS Boss was conveyed in a letter to the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
Speaking before the Senate, Adedeji promised to improve the data mining capacity of the revenue service to make appropriate tax decisions.
He attributed the revenue leakages to the lack of data on the finances of local and foreign firms operating in Nigeria.
“We will improve our data mining capacity; we will develop the data upon which we will make decisions on taxes.
The former Commissioner for Finance promised to reassess the Federal Government’s Tax Credit Scheme, which grants some corporations tax holidays in exchange for the provision of infrastructure.
