The Chairman of Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju, SAN has reiterated the commitment of the Commission to conduct free, fair and credible local government elections in the state.
The Commission boss said that the Commission will conduct the 2024 local government elections within the limit of the law.
Olagunju, while featuring on a live radio program on Saturday in Ibadan, said that all the decisions taken by the Commission were in accordance with the electoral law.ls of the state.
He harped on the need for political parties to abide by the rules guiding the conduct of the electiony to have a successful poll.
Speaking on the Commission’s preparations, Olagunju noted that data forms have been made available to candidates of all registered political parties to fill and submit by the end of this month.
He assured that the Commission will build on the relationship established with stakeholders during the last local government elections in the state, with a view to achieving a free, fair, transparent and credible election.
Olagunju, therefore, sought the cooperation and understanding of residents of the state, assuring them a credible and transparent elections.
According to him, “By the provision of the law, we have to issue notice of election and timetable 360 days before election day, and we have done this.
“By our record, we have 18 registered political parties in the state, all of them have been served the election timetable, by God’s grace, by 27th April 2024 there will be an elections in the state.
“Lack of trust and confidence responsible for apathy during local government elections, our people should show concern and participate in the forthcoming election.
“We seek the cooperation and understanding of residents of the state, our people should please come out on election day and vote, we are assuring that your vote will count,” Olagunju appealed.
