DSS Pledges Cordial Relationship With Journalists

The Oyo State Directorate, Department of State Services (DSS), has pledged its commitment to partner with a socio-cultural group, Ibadan Mega Voice, in a bid to develop the state and the nation.

The Director, Oyo State Command, DSS, Mr. John Margima, said this on Tuesday while receiving members of the group.

Margima, who said Journalists are critical stakeholders to DSS and other security agencies, stressed that his door was open to the socio-cultural group of Ibadan-born Media practitioners.

“Our job can enhance your duty as watchdogs of the society. Anywhere you have challenges, don’t hesitate to approach us. We are ready to assist. We will continue to render intelligence where possible on some of the areas that need attention”, he said.

He said that the organisation under his watch would collaborate with Ibadan Mega Voice for cross-fertilisation of ideas.

Margima said that the agency’s responsibility is to ensure national security for development, calling for the support of media practitioners in its intelligence gathering efforts.

The DSS boss urged media practitioners to shun sensationalising stories that could plunge the country into chaos.

He, however, admonished journalists to always verify their facts before going to the press to avoid causing a national crisis with their reportage.

Earlier in his remarks, the President, Ibadan Mega Voice, Kola Olomide, sought support in the sustained effort to project the good image of Ibadan, Oyo State and Nigeria.

While assuring the Agency of the needed support, Olomide stated that “there is a nexus between our responsibilities and yours.”
