Atiku Champions Protest Against Election Result, Storms INEC Office

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has led the protest against the outcome of last week’s presidential election.

Atiku, with the national leadership of PDP including the National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu; the Vice Presidential Candidate and Governor of Delta State,  Ifeanyi Okowa, stormed the National Independent Electoral Commission’s (INEC) office, Abuja.

Also in the train of the protest are the Chairman of Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel; the Director General of PCC and Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal.

The protesters, who were dressed in black uniform, were seen blocking the INEC headquarters’ entrance. The security personnel at the Commission have since locked the gate.

It will be recalled that the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu has been declared the President-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after he polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 6,984,520 votes and Peter Obi of Labour Party (LP) with 6,101,533.

The former Lagos State governor, Tinubu was declared winner after he came out tops in 12 of Nigeria’s 36 states, and secured 25% constitutional requirement in over 24 states.

Atiku, 76, who is the former Vice President, has been running for the presidential seat for six consecutive times.
