The Oyo State Government has shut down an illegal dump site belonging to Sumal Foods Limited in Oluyole Estate, Ibadan, the state capital.

The Chairman, Oyo State Waste Management Taskforce, Mrs. Adedayo Aderonke disclosed this during the week, after a visit to the dump site.

She stated that the government swung into action after discovering the illegal dump site created by Sumal Foods Limited, a manufacturing company located at Oluyole Estate at the detriment of other residents in the area.

Adedayo, who visited the dump site with other members of the task force and management team of Mottainai Recycling, said the site was filled with industrial and commercial wastes.

The task force boss asserted that necessary legal actions will be taken against the manufacturing company.

“The dump site has domestic wastes, commercial wastes and all sorts of things smelling on the land,” she said.

She said that after sealing of the dump site, which sits on about 10 acres of land, the state government will serve an abatement notice on the erring company.

Also speaking, a member of the task force, Mr. Adekola Ayoade, said that the offending company has contravened the land acquisition laws of Oyo State.

He added that the right of the company on the usage of the land will be revoked by the Ministry of Lands and Housing.
