The lawmaker representing Ibadan South West state constituency one in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Yusuf Adebisi Oladeni has explained what motivated him to construct a police station in his constituency.
Hon. Adebisi, who is the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, explaining the rationale behind the project, said that he was spurred by the safety of lives and properties of the people in the constituency.
The young lawmaker revealed that the construction of the police station has reduced criminal activities and brought improvement to the businesses in the community.
He appreciated the support of the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde and his father, Alhaji Taye Adebisi Currency for the opportunity and support given to him to be able to deliver on his electioneering promises.
While charging the people of the constituency to join hands with the police to discharge their duties efficiently and effectively, Hon. Adebisi emphasized that the station is not targeting anybody, rather it is to change the view of the people towards the constituency.
Expressing disappointment, the lawmaker said that despite the fact that the constituency has produced governors and lawmakers over the years, it is regarded as one of the volatile areas in Ibadan.
Hon. Adebisi, who is also the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Sports, urged the people of the constituency to demonstrate their love and support by electing him and Governor Seyi Makinde for the second term in office come March 11 governorship and House of Assembly elections.
Meanwhile the official commissioning of the police station by the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde which was slated for Tuesday has been postponed till after the presidential and National Assembly elections, this is due to the tight campaign schedule of the governor.
The step to construct a standard police station to ensure safety of lives and properties of the people, as well as maintaining laws and orders have been applauded by the leaders and stakeholders in the constituency. This is because, over the years, Gege, Born Photo, Foko, Popoyemoja, Isale-Osi and Idi-Arere areas of the constituency have been identified as hot zones and base of criminal activities in Ibadan.
They, however, acknowledged that with the presence of the police security operatives in the community courtesy of Hon. Yusuf Adebisi, the rate of crime and criminal elements have been reduced to the barest minimum.
