The Federal Government has sent strong signal to governors that have found joy in using thugs to molest and obstruct campaigns of the opposition parties.
The National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (rtd) gave the warning during the ministerial briefing at the state house on Friday.
He disclosed that some state governors employ the use of thugs to prevent opposition from mounting campaign materials in their domains, adding that security agencies will soon descend on them.
Monguno further warned that there will be no hiding place for the perpetrators when the law enforcement agencies take steps.
The NSA, while reacting to reports that state governors are implementing policies that prevent the presence of opposition campaign materials in their states, saying that the action is out of an inferiority complex.
He cautioned the governors to restrain their thugs in what he describes as a ‘Cabo regime’, reminding that the President Muhammadu Buhari had given clear directives that the 2023 election must be free, fair and credible.
On the persistent attacks on INEC offices, the NSA reiterated his promise to deal decisively with the attackers.
