12 Teams Battle For GSM Preseason Football Competition

The 3rd edition of Governor Seyi Makinde Pre-season Football Tournament is set to begin on November 8 this year.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Oyo State Football Association, Oba James Odeniran during the draws on Sunday at Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

According to the Chairman, the yearly competition is to develop youths in the state.

Oba James Odeniran stated that the vision behind the tournament is to evolve more competitive grassroots and academy clubs in the state so as to reduce youths restiveness in line with the agenda of Governor Seyi Makinde led government.

The Secretary, Oyo State Football Association, who doubles as Chairman of the NFF Congress Secretaries, Mr. Kehinde Ojelowo, while welcoming the delegates and Club representatives, said that the vision behind the yearly competition is to prepare clubs domiciled in the state ahead of the new season

He added that the Association was of the vision to discover hidden talents across the geo political zones in the state.

In attendance were members of Oyo State Football Association (OYSFA), representatives of Ibadan Football Association and Oyo State Sports Council, as well as representatives of all participating teams.

According to the draw, this year’s edition will have Saki United and VIA Football Academy open the centre stage on Tuesday, 8th November while Oyo State Housing Corporation FC battle Oyo ‘A’ from Oyo town as the second match.

The only NPFL club and defending Champions, Shooting Stars will face DON FA on Wednesday, November 9, while Cornerstone FC entertain OMA FA.

Ilaji FC under Coach Babatunde Odubola (Ziko) will begin their quest against the State Aiteo Cup Champions, Saki United.
