
As the second edition of the Radio Nigeria Kids’ Football Challenge gets underway in December, Ibadan Grammar School, Molete has been drawn in Group B with Loyola College, Maverick International and Qiblah International School.
The draws for the competition which will be played at Loyola College Football Pitch were held on Thursday at the Radio Nigeria Gallery, Dugbe, Ibadan.
The soccer event which is in partnership with Sumal Foods Limited. was graced by the Zonal Director of Radio Nigeria who was represented by Engr. Gabriel Ajayi, General Manager of Premier FM, Alhaji Bashir Omotosho, Deputy Director of Sports and Outside Broadcast Radio Nigeria Ibadan, Dr. Biodun Ogidan, Deputy Director of News, Adewumi Faniran, Deputy Director of New Media, Dr. Sola Agboola, Deputy Director of the Marketing Department, Mr. Adewale Afinjuomo, top Broadcasting personalities, ex-Nigerian international and Senior Management Officers of Radio Nigeria.
Speaking on the importance of sports development with kids’ football as the focus, the Guest Speaker, Mr. Felix Owolabi (MON), said that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) needs to focus on the younger generation in order to create a balance that will allow Nigeria compete in age worthy competition.
He appreciated Radio Nigeria for the initiative and expressed his believed that the competition will be a foundation for the development of future football stars who will bring the much needed change to football and shine the light on the influence of mass media to sports.
Giving his speech on the benefit of partnering with Radio Nigeria in the Kids’ Football Challenge, Sumal Representative, Mr. Blessing Emeka Onyeke, said that Sumal’s interest in partnering with all interested parties in bringing activities to children.
He reiterated the commitment of the company to the Radio Nigeria to competition and future commitment to any other future programmes involving children.
The draws of 16 schools is zoned into four groups with 8 Schools in Ibadan in Group A and B, and 8 School in Oyo Group C and D. With the last four teams of the previous edition separated into pots.
Pot A has previous edition winners Brightville College, Pot B with the 4th placed school Loyola, Pot C with 3rd placed winner Oliveth and Pot D with 2nd place winner Ilora Community High School.
