
19 Resident Electoral Commissioners have been deployed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Chairman of the Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, after the sworn-in of the 19 newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners at Commission Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday announced the deployment.
He urged the newly deployed RECs to pledge their commitment to Nigeria and not jeopardize the Commission’s independence.
In accordance with INEC regulations that prohibit a Commissioner from serving in his or her home state, he also assigned the 19 RECs to their geopolitical zones but outside of their states of origin.
According to sources from INEC in Oyo State, Dr. Tella Rahmon was appointed and deployed by the electoral umpire to supervise the elections in 2023.
Lawyer and Ph.D. Mutiu Agboke, who is the former Oyo Resident Electoral Commissioner, has been assigned to the neighboring Osun State.
Adeniran, who is the Ekiti Resident Electoral Commissioner, has been replaced by Professor Ayobami Salami, the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of First Technical University (Tech-U), Ibadan.
