
The Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Munta Abimbola has said that upgrading and renovation of courts in the state will enhance performance of the judges in the dispensation of justice in the state.
The Chief Judge gave the assurance on Monday during the celebration of the 2022/23 Legal Year. He also said that the people of Oyo State should expect effective and functional administration of justice.
He said that though there is increase in the number of criminal activities particularly in the cases of rape, assault, kidnapping, land grabbing amongst others, however, disclosed that there will be special courts for certain cases which will handle by judges who are specialized in such areas in order to have effective and speedy discharge of justice.
Justice Abimbola added that there will be establishment of small claim court that will be in charge of administration of contractual matters, saying that it another way the state will witness quick delivery of justice.
Speaking on the ongoing renovation and upgrading of courts in the state, the Chief Judge says, “in this legal year there is going to be a very proactive approach to administration in Oyo State, both civil and criminal.
“When you have the friendly environment, it will enhance the performance, thanks to His Excellency for that, there will be implementation of audio and visual recording to assist in long handwriting and speed up the way the judges handling matters.”
Meanwhile, the state Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has said that his administration will continue to uphold the rule of law, fundamental human rights and the independence of the judiciary in the state.
The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Barr Bayo Lawal, indicated that the government had also been fixing the infrastructure deficit in the judicial system.
The governor maintained that additional buildings are being constructed in the High Court Complex at Ring-Road and the Customary Court of Appeal, while a Ceremonial Hall is also being constructed at the High Court.
The governor, while noting further that the state has never hidden its strong belief in the rule of Law, said that the administration would not deviate from the noble conviction of the law and shall continue to uphold the rule of law, fundamental human rights and independence of the judiciary, which are great ideals that any responsible government must hold very dear.
He also used that renovation and upgrading of infrastructure at the he state judiciary is part of several measures aimed at positively impacting the discharge of justice in the state.
