
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Biodun Oyebanji has the winner of the gubernatorial election in Ekiti State.
Oyebanji polled 187, 057 votes to beat the former governor Segun Oni of Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Bisi Kolawole of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and 13 other candidates.
APC won in 15 out of the 16 Local Government areas while PDP secured victory in one council area.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale, who is also the INEC Chief Returning Officer, announced the result of the exercise at the state’s INEC coalition Centre in Ado Ekiti.
According to Professor Adebowale, the SPD candidate, Segun Oni polled 82, 211votes, while the PDP standard bearer, Bisi Kolawole got 67, 457 to emerge second and third positions respectfully.
In their separate reactions, the state agent officer of the APC, Mr Kayode Babade described Oyebanji’s victory as a welcome development and lauded INEC for conducting acceptable election in the state.
However, the state agent officer of the SDP, Mr Owoseeni Ajayi, rejected the result, saying that the poll was marred by vote buying.
Mr. Ajayi maintained that the party would challenge the outcome of the election in court.
