Oyo State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has explained why subvention for the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso was suspended.

Makinde, while featuring on a live programme to commemorate the third year anniversary of his administration, disclosed that he suspended the institution’s subvention for joining the ongoing Academic Staff Union of University’s (ASUU) nationwide strike.

The governor said that he has embarked on a no work, no pay policy if both the teaching and non teaching staff of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso continue with the strike action.

Makinde said that he has done everything possible after securing the sole ownership of the University for Oyo State to make sure that it maintains its standard, however, stated that the lecturers were sensitive to the plight of the students.

According to the governor, “as of today, their subvention is being withheld. If they don’t go back to school, I won’t pay the subvention.

“The students must know who to hold accountable. We expect 100 per cent cooperation but some want to play politics.

“We will only pay those who return to their duties. I don’t care whether it’s an election year. I will only do what is right till the last day of the tenure,” Makinde said.
