President Muhammadu Buhari has charged governors under the All Progressives Congress and the party chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu to ensure a true party man emerges as the party flag bearer in the general election.
The President met with APC on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting focused on giving guidance on who should emerge as the APC flag bearer ahead of the ruling party’s national convention to produce its presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections.
APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, also attended the meeting.
The president urged the governors to align on their interests so that the party can have a presidential candidate that can win the election and a candidate the Nigerian masses will believe in even before the election.
The national convention of APC will hold between June 6 and7, 2022.
President Buhari also told the governors and party chairman to work on reducing the number of the presidential aspirants to a manageable size from the current 23 before the convention.
