Oyo Guber Race; Makinde Secures 2nd Term Ticket, Promises To Consolidate On Achievements

The results of the just concluded governorship primary election in Oyo State has indicated that Governor Seyi Makinde is officially the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in next year general elections.

Governor Makinde, according to results announced by the Chairman of the electoral panel, Senator Ben Ndi Obi, who was represented by his Secretary, Alhaji Abdullahi Maibasira, defeated Chief Hazeem Gbolarumi by 1040 to 2 votes.

The primary election, which had 1096 delegates across all the 33 local government areas in the state participated and monitored by the staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan on Wednesday.

Alhaji Maibasira lauded the leadership, members and delegates of the party for their calmness and cooperation before, during and after the election.

While presenting his acceptance speech, Governor Makinde promised to consolidate on his achievements in line with his 2019 agenda to move Oyo state from poverty to prosperity.

The governor said he has fulfilled his promises made to scrap imposed #3, 000 on secondary school students by past administration, secured the sole ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) to Oyo State and provided bus terminals at Oojo, Challenge and Iwo-Road (under construction) to meet the target of robust economy.

Makinde added that has also fulfilled his promise of ensuring that all wards across the state have at least one standard maternity center to actualize an improved healthcare system.

In order to consolidate on his achievements so far, Governor Makinde urged all members of PDP to work in unity for progress and ensure the party emerged victorious at the 2023 general elections.

Makinde, while appreciating the delegates for their commitment and support, also applauded his opponent, Hazeem Gbolarumi for the spirit of sportsmanship.

He assured that he will continue to relate with the former Deputy Governor as brothers.

In his address before the commencement of the exercise, Hazeem Gbolarumi, expressed that there is need for fair and equal treatment for all aspirants especially by the electoral panel.

He added that he deserved fair treatment as a core member of the PDP, boasting that he has never left the party to another even when he had the opportunity.

The electoral panel members include Chairman, Senator Ben Ndi Obi, Secretary Alhaji Abdullahi Maibasira, Mrs.  Hassana Abubakar, Otunba ola Alimi, Mr. Tumbra Jumbo and Mrs. Ngozi Ononiwu.
