As part of efforts to ensure that the dividend of democracy reaches people at the grassroots, the lawmaker representing Ibadan South East in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Olusegun Popoola has empowered over 100 youths.

The lawmaker also dolled out over one million naira cash gift and gas cookers to leaders and members of the ruling People Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan South East Local Government.

The mega empowerment programme tagged “Popson Empowerment Scheme 2022”, which has several prominent members of party in attendance including Alhaji Tiamiyu Abidikugu, Dare Adeleke and Ibadan South East party Chairman, Sulaimon Adesina, was held at St. John Catholic Primary School, Eleta, Ibadan on Tuesday.

Speaking at the programme, Mr. Dare Adeleke, who is the Chairman, Oyo State Pacesetter Transport Service, commended Hon. Olusegun Popoola for making the party proud through his various party and people’s oriented programmes.

He emphasized that the lawmaker deserved commendation for complimenting Governor Seyi Makinde’s efforts to bring the state out of poverty to prosperity.

While charging the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the equipment, Adeleke appealed to other elected officials in the state to toe the line of Governor Seyi Makinde by making the people in their local government and constituency to feel the impact of government like Hon. Olusegun Popoola.

The lawmaker, in his address, expressed appreciation to the governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde who he said is the brain behind the empowerment programme, leaders, members of the People’s Democratic Party and the people in his constituency for their support.

Hon. Popoola,who is the Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, disclosed that the empowerment programme is to show his commitment to toe the line of the governor to deliver good governance in his constituency.

He maintained that beneficiaries of the empowerment programme cut across four vocational trainings including tailoring, barbing, hairdressing and nylon cutting. He added that the equipment distributed to them which is worth several millions of naira is to encourage and teach them on how to fish and make them to stand on their own.

Hon. Popoola, who had earlier commissioned a borehole water project at Papa Ayetoro at Iyana-Court, Ile Tuntun, also presented a power generating set to ensure regular water supply. He also presented another two power generating sets to the Omi-Tuntun Foundation.

He opined that the second batch of the empowerment programme will come up anytime soon to ensure that all interests in the constituency are taken care of.

Listing some of his achievements so far in the constituency, Hon. Popoola said that he has provided several boreholes, street lights to ensure security of lives and properties, financial support to people and ensuring regular interaction with stakeholders to have first hand information about updates in the constituency.

In their separate reactions, some of the beneficiaries, Adeola Kolade (ward 6, tailor), Akinbile Wuraola (ward 9, hairdresser), Yusuff Ibrahim (ward 7, nylon cutter) and Adeoye Faruq (ward 8, barber), expressed gratitude to the lawmaker for living up to his promises.

While promising judicious use of the equipment, they acknowledged that the vocational training which lasted a year and half was an opportunity for them to achieve their desired objective and becoming boss on their own.

Other dignitaries in attendance are Hon. Akeem Ige, Hon. Abiodun Adedoja, Hon. Kunmi Adesina, Hon. Fatai Adesina, Mogaji Abass Oloko and members of the PDP executive at local and ward levels
