An Ibadand-based cleric, Evangelist Adekunle Nikoro of the Redeem Christian Church of God has identified social disintegration, crackdown in ethnic and social values as factors responsible for crises bedeviling Nigeria as a nation.

Evangelist Nikoro disclosed this on Sunday while delivering a sermon titled, “Words of Intercession: As it Affects the Church and the Society” at the Redeem Christian Church of God, Dominion Arena located at Ologuneru, Ibadan.

He disclosed that the church and the society at large must have a change of attitude towards our social norms, cultural values and ethics in order to salvage the country from the deteriorating ladder it’s presently on.

According to Evangelist Nikoro, “I remember when I was young; Nigerians lived and treated each other like members of a big family irrespective of their cultural background. Children were not only trained by their biological parents but by the whole community, fathers and mothers go the extra mile to train other people’s children on the right norms, culture and ethics of the community, and obviously the results are there as reference .

“Nigeria in that era had peace, security wise, Nigerians could sleep and leave our door opens without the fear of armed robbers and other threats we now experiencing in the society.

“In those good eras, If an elderly person sees a child with the biggest denomination, they make enquiries and question the source of the money and if not satisfied with the responses given, they go as far as reaching out to the biological parents of the child. The children then all have the fear of the elders in the society but the reverse is the case in present time, Nigerians now care only about their immediate family, without any concern about those people around them.

“Nigerians at the moment, in there selfish nature now overlook those neighbors children seen smoking cannabis, indulging in hard drugs and other vices, forgetting that they are like time bomb waiting to detonate, they have forgotten that those children they careless about will be the same to make their life’s unbearable, attack their children and their wealth,” Evangelist Nikoro said.

While charging religious and clerics generally irrespective of faith, the cleric urged them to help in reawakening the consciousness of Nigerians to the importance of the social, ethics and cultural values to the country’s unity and peace.

Evangelist Nikoro urged Nigerians to see the next person as their family, so that we can help salvage our dear country, Nigeria.
