More Institutions Join Ogun 2021 SOWEGA

More institutions of higher learning within South West Nigeria have signified interest to participate in the maiden edition of South West Games (SOWEGA) tagged: Ogun 2021 that is tentatively scheduled for the first week in September, at NYSC camp Sagamu, Ogun State.

This was revealed in a Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting for the games, recently held inside the conference center of the University of Ibadan where representatives from intending participating schools are in attendance.

Others in attendance are the members of the CWC which includes:  Dr. Babatunde Olokun, Chairman, Mr. Niyi Sodiya Secretary, Chief Falilat Ogunkoya, an Olympian and Mr. Ropo Ewenla.

The motives behind the sporting event according to the organisers is foster harmony and friendship among youths within the south/west geo-political zone of the country, and to enable the youths display sport talents that may be economically viable to them in the world of sport professionalism.

The committee and sports’ officers from the intending institutions however looked critically into the academic calendar of each school before arriving on the proposed schedule, while calling on corporate bodies and private individuals that might want to sponsor or partner with the organizer to be prompt.

Other schools that have joined the University of Ibadan and Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu Ode that are driving the idea are Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Yaba College of Technology, Federal University Oye, Ekiti, Ekiti State University, Osun State University and Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye among others.

Games listed for participation include: ayo olopon, football, table tennis, basketball, golf, swimming, tennis, boxing and taekwondo, chess as well as track and field events.
