Sexual Assault: Two Senior Advocates To Defend Baba Ijesha At Special Court

Over alleged sexual assault of a minor by a Nollywood star, Olanrewaju Omiyinka alias Baba Ijesha, two Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Babatunde Ogala and Dada Awosika, will on Thursday argue for his bail application.

Baba Ijesha who has been in custody since his arrest on April 22, will stand trial before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo will be arraigned at the Special Offences Court in Ikeja.

The Nollywood actor was arraigned on June 16 at a Yaba Magistrates’ Court.

But his bail application was dismissed and he was ordered to be remanded in custody, due to indications that the matter is now before the High Court.

However, due to signs that the case is now before the High Court, his bail application was denied and he was ordered to be held in custody.

The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution filed a six count charge against the accused which include alleged Indecent Treatment of a Child, Sexual Assault and Attempted Sexual Assault by Penetration contrary to Sections 135, 263 and 262 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 as well as Sexual Assault by Penetration contrary to section 259 of the state’s Criminal Law.

It was also gathered that the Director of Public Prosecution, Olayinka Adeyemi is leading the state’s legal team, while Baba ijesha is being represented by two Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Babatunde Ogala and Dada Awosika, who will also argue his bail application today.
