Protest rocked University College Hospital, (UCH), Ibadan as the training workers at the teaching hospital demanded immediate payment of their four months’ salary arrears.
The interns embarked on a peaceful protest on Friday to express their grievance.
According to some of the workers who spoke with journalists said the management has been paying them half of their salaries since January 2021 till date which according to them is not part of the terms and conditions of their services.
The training workers cut across various sections of the teaching hospital including nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, medical laboratory science, radiographers and dieticians
The interns through their peaceful protest expressed their displeased over what they said there is always a reflect of full payment on the payslip but half salary is being sent to their individual accounts.
The protesters, who noted that they met with the management earlier to press their case, expressed shock when it was half salaries they still received as March and April salaries.
“They paid us January and February half payment towards the ending of March, We just received alerts yesterday night for March and April, which is not even up to half of salary”
One of the interns, who claimed to have contacted Covid-19, disclosed she didn’t get anything from UCH. “I had buy my own drugs, no Covid-19 allowance, only for UCH to start owing me salary for months this is unfair.”
They called on the management of the teaching hospital to look into their demands as they rely solely on the stipends to survive and to take care of their family.
