The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to hold a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders Meeting to mark the 100-day milestone to the first ballot in Nigeria’s 2027 General Election.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The meeting is expected to bring together political parties, media organisations, security agencies, civil society organisations, religious leaders, development partners, members of the diplomatic community and other stakeholders in the electoral process.

2027 General Election: INEC Chairman to Address Stakeholders

The event will be addressed by the INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, who is expected to provide an update on the Commission’s preparations for the 2027 General Election.

INEC is constitutionally responsible for organising, undertaking and supervising elections to the offices of the President, Vice-President, governors, deputy governors and members of the National and State Assemblies.

The Commission’s official 2027 election timetable sets out the sequence of activities leading to the general election, including party primaries and other electoral preparations.

INEC said the World Press Conference and National Stakeholders Meeting will provide an opportunity to engage Nigerians and key stakeholders on the Commission’s preparations for the election.

Those invited include:

  • Political parties and their representatives
  • Media organisations
  • Security agencies
  • Civil society organisations
  • Religious leaders
  • Development partners
  • Members of the diplomatic community
  • Other electoral stakeholders

The engagement is expected to provide a platform for the Commission to communicate its preparations and interact with stakeholders ahead of the 2027 polls.

The 2027 General Election is expected to involve elections for federal and state elective offices in accordance with Nigeria’s constitutional and electoral framework.

INEC has already published its timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election. The Commission has also published election regulations and guidelines outlining procedures for accreditation, voting, collation of results and other polling-unit operations.

The October 6 stakeholder engagement will therefore come as preparations move closer to the first ballot.

2027 General Election: What to Expect at the October 6 Meeting

The World Press Conference is expected to focus on the state of preparations for the 2027 General Election and provide stakeholders with an opportunity to hear directly from the electoral commission.

With representatives from political parties, the media, security agencies, civil society and other groups expected at the meeting, the event will also serve as a platform for broader stakeholder engagement ahead of the polls.
