
The British heavyweight boxer, Daniel Dubois has officially petitioned the World Boxing Association (WBA) following the decision of the judge in his fight against Olyksandr Usyk.
The boxer appealed that the fight be declared invalid and the WBA should order an immediate rematch.
It will be recalled that in the 5th round of the match between Daniel Dubois and Olyksandr Usyk, the Briton sent the Ukrainian to the canvas with a blow to the body, but the judge decided that it was done in violation of the rules.
The petition was confirmed by the World Boxing Association, and the body promised to review it in line with the regulations.
The boxing regulation body further disclosed on its social media that the situation will be decided in accordance with WBA rules, promising to communicate to those concerned in an appropriate manner.
“The World Boxing Association (WBA) officially announced that it has received an appeal from the team of Daniel Dubois (19-2, 18 KOs) for the fight against Alexander Usik (21-0, 14 KOs). In the 5th round, the Briton sent the Ukrainian to the canvas with a blow to the body, but the judge decided that this was done in violation of the rules. The team of the British heavyweight wants the fight to be declared invalid and also insists on an immediate rematch.
“Daniel Dubois’s team has filed a formal appeal against his last fight on August 26, in which he lost by knockout in 9 rounds to Oleksandr Usyk in Wroclaw, Poland. The WBA, having received this appeal from Dubois’ team, will proceed with the review in accordance with the regulations. Any decision regarding this situation will be decided in accordance with WBA rules and communicated in a timely and appropriate manner.”
