INEC Warns Public Against Fake Governorship Candidates Announcement

INEC Fake Governorship Candidates Announcement

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against the fake governorship candidates announcement circulating online, which falsely claims to be a special notice concerning governorship candidates in six states.

The Commission disclosed this in a public notice issued on Monday, describing the publication as fraudulent and clarifying that it did not originate from INEC.

The fake announcement reportedly concerns governorship candidates in Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe and Kano states.

INEC urged members of the public to disregard the publication and refrain from sharing it to prevent the spread of false electoral information.

INEC Dismisses Fake Governorship Candidates Announcement

In its statement, the electoral body categorically denied issuing the purported special announcement, stressing that any information suggesting it had released such a notice concerning governorship candidates in the six states was false.

The Commission warned that the fraudulent publication could mislead members of the public and urged Nigerians to exercise caution when encountering election-related information online.

It also advised citizens to verify electoral news before sharing it, particularly reports concerning candidates, election administration and official Commission decisions.

INEC urged the public to rely exclusively on its official notices, press releases and other communications published through its verified channels.

The Commission emphasised the importance of checking the authenticity of election-related reports to prevent misinformation from spreading across social media platforms and other online channels.

It further called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid circulating unverified publications that could create confusion about electoral matters.

INEC Reaffirms Commitment to Accurate Public Information

The Commission reiterated its commitment to keeping Nigerians accurately informed about electoral developments through its official communication channels.

INEC also renewed its appeal to the public to disregard the fake governorship candidates announcement and obtain information about candidates and election-related matters only from verified Commission sources.

The warning underscores the importance of verifying political and electoral information before sharing it, especially when a publication claims to announce official decisions by the electoral body.

Members of the public are therefore advised to consult INEC’s verified communication channels for authentic updates and clarifications on electoral matters.
