Prominent businessman and Ibadan chief, Mogaji Wole Arisekola, has decried the poor state of roads in Ogun State, describing it as ‘one of the worst road networks in the history of the old Western Region’.
The situation is a major threat to commerce, tourism, and human lives.
The media guru made reference to poor state of roads in the state in an open letter addressed to the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday.
He cited the access road leading to Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort in Akanran, Oyo State, which connects thousands of Ogun and Oyo residents daily, as a prime example of government neglect.
Mogaji Arisekola revealed that the terrible state of roads in the area has stopped his frequent trips to the Gateway State.
“With that same euphoria and sense of pride, I set out from my house in Abuja to visit the much-talked-about Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort.
“A journey that was supposed to take between 30 and 40 minutes from my house in Ibadan ended up taking us well over two hours.
“The first question that struck my mind was, ‘Am I still in Oyo State or have I crossed into Ogun State?’
“Ogun State has one of the worst road networks in the history of the old Western Region. I stopped travelling to Ijebu-Ode to enjoy my favourite bush meat and amala simply because of the terrible roads,” Mogaji Wole Arisekola said.
