Member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere state constituency, Hon Simeon Adegbola Oyeleke has decamped to ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Hon. Oyeleke was received by the PDP caucus led by the Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, Majority Leader, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin and other lawmakers at the floor of the House on Tuesday.
The lawmaker was presented with the People’s Democratic Party, PDP flag at the brief ceremony.
In his defection letter read by the Clerk, Mrs. Oludara Awe, Hon. Oyeleke said he left his former political party, All Progressives Congress (APC) because of some unresolvable internal wranglings.
The letter reads in part “APC in Oyo State has failed to uphold the tenets of democracy especially as it relates to justice and equity in its dealings with party faithful. I can’t continue to be in a party that does not value my interest and that of my supporters. The PDP has shown great potentials in Oyo State and it remains the party to beat at all levels in 2023.”
It was also announced in the defection letter that Hon. Oyeleke has joined the PDP with thousands of his political supporters.
The Speaker, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin who welcomed the lawmaker to the ruling party, applauded his resolve to join the PDP in Oyo State.
While reacting to the defection, the Minority Leader of the House, Hon. Asimiyu Alarape wished the lawmaker well, however, noted that crisis management has always been part of politics.
“Politics is about management of crisis. Anyone can feel aggrieved. This is not new in politics. Anyway, we wish you well,” Hon. Alarape said.
