Wife of the Oyo State Governor, Tamunominni Makinde has provided succor to the victims of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in the state.
Mrs. Makinde gave out Survivor Fund to support two young victims of GBV in the presence of the state Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Williams, Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Bar Oyelowo Oyewo, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Alhaja Kafilat Olayiwola and Head of Service, Ololade Agboola among others.
The First Lady said that the Survivors Fund is part of the activities by the Nigerian Governors’ Wives Forum designed to support and assist survivors of Gender Based-Violence (GBV).
Mrs. Makinde expressed challenges the state is facing in prosecuting perpetrators of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence.
She highlighted the success story recorded by Oyo State in the fight against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence such as the institution of Family Court, Training of Gender Based Violence rapid response team members, building of a sexual and assault referral centre and passage of the Violence Against Person’s Prohibition Law.
Mrs. Makinde, therefore, encouraged the girls not to see the evil act perpetrated against them as the end of the world but that they should always remember that they have a bright future ahead of them.
“I want to assure all the stakeholders present not to relent in ensuring that Sexual and Gender Based Violence is eliminated in Oyo State so that society can be safe for our girls and women to live in.”
